Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called "life". Electric word, life. It means forever, and that's a mighty long time. But I'm here to tell you there's something else: the Afterworld. We're all here for the ACD Annual Meeting, but that doesn't mean you can't purify yourselves in the waters of Lake Minnetonka to celebrate the life of the Artist FOREVER Known as Prince. Here's a guide to events and places regarding His Purpleness while you're in town.
Let's Go Crazy! (Punch a higher floor!)
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and enjoy a FREE outdoor movie on the big screen! Purple Rain is brought to you by Saint Paul Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Highland Business Association. This event is part of Highland Fest 2016. Title subject to change. Movies in the Parks events are free and open to the public. All children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Prince’s Purple Rain took the movie and music worlds by storm. In his lavishly playful second film and directorial debut Under the Cherry Moon, he plays an American musician living with his pal (Jerome Benton) on the French Riviera and on the bank accounts of bored divorcees. The next object of his affection is a lovely and spirited young heiress (Kristin Scott Thomas, in her feature film debut). He doesn't count on confronting the girl's enraged father (Steven Berkoff), and he certainly doesn't count on falling in love. But with Prince in charge, you can definitely count on exciting music, shimmering costume and production design and style to burn. Gorgeously photographed in black and white, with a song-filled soundtrack that includes “Kiss” and the title track.
Playing at the Uptown Theater both Friday and Saturday nights at 12:15, tickets may be purchased by clicking here.
