Green Affordable Housing in Indian Country Wisconsin

A Hands-on “Green” Construction Training Program

Students and faculty will work with experienced builders from Tribal Housing Offices to construct “green affordable housing”. The construction methods are based on code-compliant Light Straw-Clay Walls and Energy Efficient Thermal Mass approach adapted to Northern climates by the non-profit Architects, Design Coalition, Madison Wisconsin (designcoalition.org). This program will include both “hands-on” and classroom instruction in principles of green housing and conservation masterplan/site design.

Limited enrollment by permission of instructor.
Preference will be given to experienced builders working with affordable housing organizations, and students from professional design and planning programs.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Participants from Tribal Colleges and/or Tribal Housing Offices are eligible for scholarships and/or internships from the Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Foundation.
 
If accepted, students may enroll for 3 week or 8 week summer sessions, and earn up to 4 college credits from the University of Wisconsin.
