New Rose Fellowship Opportunity in Colorado: Applications Due September 15!

Enterprise Community Partners is pleased to announce that applications are available for a Rose Architectural Fellowship position in Durango, Colo., opening in November 2007. Applications are available online at www.rosefellowship.org. Applications for this opportunity are due Sept. 15.

The Rose Fellow will work closely with the executive director of the La Plata County Regional Housing Authority on pre-development activities related to land acquisitions. The Fellow also will provide technical assistance to local organizations such as Fort Lewis College, Durango Mountain Resort and 9R, who are all investigating possible developments on currently owned land. The Fellow also will collaborate with local nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity, including taking a project from site planning through unit construction on four to eight homes each year.

Program Manager (Job #1723)

The Program Manager is responsible for implementing all aspects of a program that creates new permanent playgrounds on public land in lower income neighborhoods in New York City. A special feature of this program is extensive involvement by a local school or community sponsor in the design and operation of the playgrounds.

The Program Associate is responsible for assisting implementing specific aspects of a program that works with the NYC Parks Department to create 161 new permanent playgrounds on public land in lower income neighborhoods in New York City. Americorps*VISTA - Appalachian Coal Country Watershed Team

Would you like a job that matters? Are you motivated to fight water pollution and improve the living conditions of low-income communities in Appalachia? Appalachian Coal Country Watershed Team members live and work in low-income communities dealing with contaminated streams, depressed economies and other issues related to abandoned mine lands and impoverished communities. Your help is needed in building programs that will alleviate these problems. Work with local volunteers as an OSM-VISTA team member and see lasting environmental change happen on the ground level!
  • Location: 55 sites in 8 Appalachian states (PA, MD, OH, WV, VA, TN, KY, AL)
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Start Date: Placements are made on a rolling basis, with six start dates throughout the year.
  • Hours: Full Time
  • Compensation: As an Americorps*VISTA you receive a monthly living stipend of roughly $833 (before taxes), health insurance, child care if eligible, student loan forbearance (with interest paid), and the choice of a $4725 education award or $1200 cash stipend upon term completion.

Pratt Center for Community Development Seeks Architect/Job Captain

The Pratt Center for Community Development works for a more just, equitable and sustainable city for all New Yorkers, by empowering communities to plan for and realize their futures. We seek an architect to provide architectural services to not-for-profit, community-based organizations in New York City. The successful candidate will provide design, feasibility/zoning analyses, and program planning for community facilities and other community development projects as well as support to the architectural director and construction specialist on major projects in construction.

Global Exchange Cuba Research Trip

Global Exchange, a non-profit human rights group, is offering research trips to Cuba for qualified architects and urban planners. The trips are led by prominent architects and urban planners with emphasis on community projects and other socially relevant works. They have been organizing and sending groups to Cuba since l992.
