Beyond Resilience isn't the only exciting progressive event the first week of June! The following events are not affiliated with the conference, but may be of interest to attendees:
Transportation Alternatives Tour de Brooklyn
The Tour de Brooklyn is a fun-filled, family-friendly 21.5 mile bike tour, held every year on the first Sunday after Memorial Day weekend. The tour will move en masse as a rolling parade escorted by the New York City Police Department. While there are no actual street closures, the NYPD and Transportation Alternatives' volunteer safety marshals will block or "cork" traffic intersections to allow the Tour to roll through. The starting point and the route change every year in an effort to highlight different neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
Sunday, Jun 2: 8 am – 4 pm, Commodore Barry Park, Brooklyn. http://tourdebrooklyn.org/
Partnering for Impact: Innovative Collaborations for Effective Organizing
Partnering for Impact is a day-long conference to explore how grassroots community organizations and resource allies can partner to organize for justice and social change. The conference will include panel discussions, case studies and hands-on workshops to build skills and explore innovative examples of participatory research, planning and design. The event will conclude with an exhibition of innovative, collaborative projects. Partnering for Impact is hosted by the Community Development Project at the Urban Justice Center, Hester Street Collaborative, and the Center for Urban Pedagogy.
Tuesday, June 4: 9:30 am – 7:00 pm, the New School. http://welcometocup.org/PartneringForImpact
Left Forum: Mobilizing for Ecological/Economic Transformation
The 2013 Left Forum will focus on the fraught relationships between economy, nature, and community in capitalist societies to examine how and why capitalism led to the current environmental impasse (that traditional socialism could not prevent either), and what economic, political cultural changes are needed to overcome it. It includes a book and organization fair, hundreds of panels, and a special Saturday night event with Oliver Stone.
Friday, June 7 - Sunday, June 9: Pace University. http://www.leftforum.org/
